Maurício Klabin’s Eclipse Lamp featured on Objekto reminds me of a nautilus seashell and roller blinds all at once. The white strip of polypropylene is supported by a steel frame and its form can be manipulated in a variety of ways. It’s also part of the permanent collection at Museum of Modern Art of New York. Snakkes is the latest lamp from the hip Norwegian design collective, Northern Lighting. Described as a wall mounted LED light board it functions as both a wall lamp and ingenious notice board. Amusingly shaped like a speech bubble, the design comes with its own whiteboard marker. In Norwegian Snakkes means “talk to you later”. (via SNAKKES wall lamp)

designer chris kirby will exhibit his ‘spiral lamp’ part of a submission of works by tokyo designers keiji ashizawa, mikiya kobayashi, and DRILL design at this year’s designersblock exhibition during milan design week 09. the ‘spiral lamp’ is made from a single piece of plastic sheet with slits in it. by bending it together and intermeshing it with itself, an intricate shell is formed. it explores the interaction between light and matter, the impassable and the transmissive, flat and voluminous, and growing complex forms from a simple starting point. spanish studio yonoh has relaunched their ‘prof’ lamp. its design incorporates a cold cathode tube light and consumes little electricity with a life use of 45,000 hours. the lamp is conceived from a continuous tube of 30 mm diameter bent over itself that creates a self- bearing structure. via designboom
